The Ingonyama Trust Board held its first of its kind meeting with members of the media on 18 December 2024. The aim of the meeting was to meet with members of the media to introduce the Ingonyama Trust Board among other things and establish a professional and open communication relationship. In terms of the Bill of Rights,
access to information is a right that is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
The Board understands that this meeting is long overdue. Not meeting with the media has not been a deliberate neglect or a commitment to secrecy. From when the Board took office, it has had to deal with a number
of matters which needed urgent attention. As it has been stated, this Board subscribes to the Constitutional
principle that South African citizens have a right to access to information.
Ingonyama Trust Board, is committed to being accountable to those it serves including taxpayers. That is
why this meeting seeks to open professional lines of communication in order to be accountable. The Board
commits to a professional working relationship with the media within the legal framework.. This is even more
so as His Majesty, King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini Zulu is the Chairperson of the Board.
Ingonyama Trust Board welcomes the media response to the notice of the meeting. Going forward, we would like to pave the way for a smooth working relationship. We are aware that in your craft, you have to meet deadlines therefore please send emails with your questions and give reasonable notice for a response. Text messages present difficulties.
