Welcome to Ingonyama Trust Board
Ingonyama Trust Board is an entity responsible for administration of Ingonyama Trust land which is about 2.8 million hectares in extent spread throughout the province of KwaZulu – Natal in the republic of South Africa. The Ingonyama Trust was established in 1994 by the KwaZulu Ingonyama Trust Act, (Act No 3 of 1994) to hold the land in title for "the benefit, material welfare and social well-being of the members of the tribes and communities" living on the land. The Board sees real estate management as its major core function and encourages development on its land which will be of benefit to the various communities not only from a rental income point of view but also through employment and other opportunities.
It is a requirement of the Ingonyama Trust legislation that the formal consent of the relevant Traditional Council be obtained before a mining tenure rights application can be processed.
The Ingonyama Trust Board, “the Board” is a schedule 3A Public Entity reporting to the National Minister for Rural Development and Land Reform “the Minister” as Executive Authority. The Board is the Accounting Authority and derives its mandate from the KwaZulu-Natal Ingonyama Trust Act (Act 3 of 1994) as amended by National Act 9 of 1997 read in conjunction with the Public Finance Management Act (Act 1 of 1999).
